BHR envisions itself as not only as a steward of existing forest, but as a place to add appropriate species of fruiting and other trees to enhance wildlife resources and provide food for guests. Care is taken to plant only those species approved for the area. Currently, a wide variety of fruits trees are planted including various varieties of apples, pears, prunes, plums, and apricots. In addition to standard fruit tree varieties, BHR is also experimenting with a variety of grapes to determine feasibility for a future vineyard and possible wine production facility.
