Bad weather causes planting haitus

Written by Corey on May 29th, 2010

BHCR spring 2010 planting on hold due to heavy rain! The ranch experienced over 1.5 inches of rain on the 27th and 28th of May, which made planting of the historically wet Lessig food plot impossible. Luckily the newly created Creek Bend plot planted was on the 26th of May, so the heavy rains will help with germination there. Hopefully the moisture will carry over through the summer.

This spring has been one of the wettest on record, and the cool wet weather has made planting challenging. The Spokesman Review: “The month of June ended with 2.56 inches of precipitation, which was more than double the average for the month. Also, the average temperature was 2.5 degrees below normal.” Hopefully this summer will continue to be warm AND wet, and not too hot and dry. Either way, the ranch is ready with 6 acres of plots planted in a wide range of cereal grains, brassicas and clovers.
